Vinyl Siding Winter Installation

I get asked all the time what I do during the winter months. And my response is always, “we work of course!”.

It’s a common misconception that construction can’t happen when it’s too cold outside. The bottom line is cold AND heat affect building materials. It’s just as important to understand how to properly install vinyl siding when it’s 40 degrees as when it’s 90 degrees, because it’s impossible to only have projects going on during an ideal 50 to 60 degrees, and here in Connecticut the weather rarely cooperates!

Benefits To Installing Vinyl Siding In Winter

Let’s talk about one of the biggest advantages to installing siding in the winter. We aren’t as busy, and are more likely to give you a deal. In the spring and summer, we often have more work than we can handle, so there is absolutely no incentive for us to give out discounts. Not to mention, the vinyl siding manufacturers themselves often lower prices on materials during the fall and winter, just to move product.

So, as long a you hire a contractor who is competent, and has experience installing year round, like we do, then it’s in your best interest to do your siding project during the fall / winter months.

Don’t forget about the energy benefits of siding. Not only do we install an additional layer of insulation under the vinyl, but if there were any gaps in the old siding or around the windows, we fix it. If your house is particularly drafty, siding your house may go a long way to increase curb appeal, house resale value AND save on heating costs.

Give me a call to discuss the different siding options and we can have a no-pressure conversation about what the costs might be.

Vinyl Siding Shelton Newtown Monroe CT … Why is custom aluminum trim important?

A siding installation is really only maintenance free if installed in a high quality way. Find out about our process with custom aluminum trim …

Full Video Transcription:
At Creative Home Improvement, we’ve been installing Vinyl Siding in Fairfield County for almost 40 years.

Today we’re on a job in Shelton Connecticut, talking about the advantages of using custom aluminum trim when hanging vinyl siding.

The key to a quality vinyl siding project is your aluminum trim. We make the aluminum trim with a built in j channel. Two aspects of the built in j channel custom made aluminum trim – the siding fits right into the built in j channel and it also acts a a flashing to protect any water infiltration around your windows.

If you can pretend this is your wood trim around your windows, what some companies do – they take j channel, your standard j channel, put it right up to your wood trim, then all they do is wrap this with aluminum. So you’re left with aluminum, j channel, and then siding. So by doing it with the custom built aluminum j channel, we skip the j channel step, and the vinyl siding fits right into the attached j channel on our aluminum trim. And here’s the finished product.

On many of our projects, including this one, we recommend Cedar impressions from Certainteed. As you can see it looks just like real wood shingles, but never has to be painted.
